It helps restore normal bowel functions, promotes healthy colon function, cleanses the large intestines, expels toxins, and may be beneficial for constipation, intestinal inflammation, stomach and duodenal ulcers. irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, and cholesterol levels. Studies at the University of Kentucky and the Veterans Affairs medical center in Lexington Ky showed that Serum total and LDL-cholesterol concentrations were 4.7% and 6.7% lower in a 24-26 week time span after being given psyllium.

Citrus Pectin

Citrus Pectin Is an indigestible natural fiber found in the peel of citrus fruits. It is widely know for its ability to maintain intestinal balance. It is said to be a good colonon cleanser because of its ability to remove wastes and toxins as well as control diarrhea. Citrus Pectin binds with fats in the intestine before they are absorbed which could have a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels. This binding action also slows absorption of dietary sugars. Studies show that modified citrus pectin caused systemic chelation of toxic metals. Other studies show it inhibits tumor growth. A Scandinavian study found that Citrus Pectin slowed the doubling time of PSA, the hormone used as an indicator of prostate cancer spread.

We include it in this formula for its ability to increase the flow of digestive enzymes, help control diarrhea, constipation, and chronic inflammation of the colon and rectum. It is also said to be beneficial for hemorrhoids.

Cascara Sagrada Bark (Rhamnus purshiana)

Cascara Sagrada Bark (Rhamnus purshiana) Cascara Sagrada, Spanish for "sacred bark" is one of the few herbs approved by the FDA as an over-the-counter drug by the US Food and Drug Administration. Cascara sagrada is used as a laxative. The anthraquinones in Cascara Sagrada stimulate the bowel, leading to evacuation after approximately six to ten hours. This herb also provokes secretion of fluid and minerals into the large intestine and inhibits re-absorption. It is suggested for situations in which a soft, easily passed stool is desirable.

Gentian Root (Gentiana lutea)

Gentian Root is traditionally used as a digestive bitter tonic. Gentian may also be used for pelvic inflammatory diseases, venereal diseases, hepatitis, jaundice, and most liver disorders, headaches and constipation.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus

According to the Colon Health Handbook, the healthy colon should contain at least 85% lactobacillus and 15% coliform bacteria. However, the typical colon bacteria count is in reverse, resulting in excessive gas, bloating, intestinal and systemic toxicity, constipation, and mal-absorption of nutrients which leads to an overgrowth of Candida. Acidophilus may help detoxify harmful substances and has an antibacterial effect.
