DIETARY CONSIDERATIONS

Changing the diet is probably the hardest part of getting the Candida under control.  It does take discipline but it is well worth the effort and after some time you won't even miss certain foods.  How long and how stringent you have to be about your diet depends on how sick you are and how badly you want to get well.  There are several good Candida cook-books out there.  Learn to make your own foods rather than buying everything processed.  This will not only save you money but in the long run it will save your health.  This writer has made some permanent dietary changes simply because I feel better without certain foods.  The basic rule is restrict your intake of refined carbohydrates, sugar, avoid milk and dairy products (except yogurt) and avoid vinegar, pickled or mold containing foods as well as alcohol.  Pay attention to your symptoms.  If eating a certain foods makes you feel worse.....stay away from it.  You are allergic to it at this time.  In a few months you will probably be able to go back to eating it again.  Try to keep your food as natural as possible.  Start reading labels.  You will be surprised at what is put in our food for added flavor and preserving.  And most of it makes the bad guys really happy!  And like my Grandmother used to say.  "If you can't pronounce it...don't eat it!"  

VEGETABLES: You can eat any and as many vegetables as you like with the exception of Mushrooms, Parsnips, Winter Squash, Yams and potatoes.

WHOLE GRAINS AND LEGUMES: You can have any of this food group that you like as long as you stay away from WHITE!  White bread, white rice, anything with white flour.  Candida loves that stuff. Any breads should be avoided because of their yeast content and corn because of its mold content. But any other grain or bean is allowed.

NUTS & FATS: The only nuts you can't have are peanuts and cashews because of their mold content.  Use as little oil as possible and don't fry.  For some reason deep fried foods make the little creeps go crazy and you feel like YUK!.  You may have butter in moderation and mayonnaise if you make it from scratch.  Store bought  mayonnaise has vinegar and sugar.  So do most salad dressings as well as ketchup and mustard.

MEATS, FISH & EGGS: You may have any meat except pork in small amounts.  Fish and eggs are allowed also.

FRUIT: Because of the high sugar content of fruit.   Most people will feel bad from eating fruit.  The sugar just feeds the Candida and helps them multiply.  So for the first two or three months it is best to avoid fruit all together except for Limes.  Candida HATE lime.  So drinking water with fresh lime in it all day will definitely discourage the little buggers.
